Necklace
Artist Statement: Tan·tal·us
\’tan-t?l-?s\ n [L, fr. Gk Tantalos] son of
Zeus and Titaness Pluto, he stole nectar and ambrosia
from the table of the gods, the punishment for which
was standing up to the chin in a pool of water in
Hades and beneath fruit-laiden boughs only to have
the water or fruit recede at each attempt to drink
or eat.
The sculptural vernacular is derived from natural
tentacled forms such as the octopus, sea anemones
and epiphytes. The wearer puts herself amongst the
tentacles, tantalizes others, and bears the expression
of the myth of Tantalus.
Tan·tal·ize \’tan-t?l-i˜z\
vb -lized; -liz·ing: to tease or torment by
presenting something desirable to the view but continually
keeping it out of reach.
